13,000 balloons will drop at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona to ring in the new year Saturday night. This year's "Hollywood" theme will flood the casino's many private and public events.

In Utica, Bagg's Square will have a busier night this New Year's Eve as opposed to one year ago. Since the year 2011 started, both Piers and Blake and The Cage opened and will offer events this New Year's Eve.

Varick Street in Utica also has events planned, as they do every year.

In Otsego County, Oneonta will participate in a grouping of events taking place all around the nation. First Night Oneonta is a New Year's Eve celebration focused on the arts. Held in more than 200 cities worldwide, the festival is a way to bring in the New Year in an uplifting, alcohol-free atmosphere. Centered on Main Street, First Night Oneonta has an array of entertainment, from children's activities in the afternoon, a poetry reading, fantastic parade, performances by great area musicians and dancers, plus a spectacular fireworks finale.
