Old Forge celebrates start of holiday season

OLD FORGE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Mother nature played her role Friday for those attending Christmas on Main Street.

The snow set the scene. Not only are there plenty of stores to choose from to get your shopping in, but you could take a horse drawn sleigh ride as well. The event goes on all weekend long. Santa, Mrs. Claus and their reindeer will be in town.

Some people come back to Old Forge every year. They say it beats heading to the big box stores on Black Friday.

Old Forge native Heather Kaese said, "I'm here because I think these stores are really unique. They offer something different than just your everyday Best Buy and Walmart, nothing against those stores, this is just a great ambiance and atmosphere. People are friendly, you get unique gifts here."

The event continues all weekend long on Main Street. You can meet Santa's reindeer at Walt's Diner until 4:00 on Saturday and on Sunday, it is all about the kids. Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place plus sleigh rides all weekend long.
