Red Kettle Campaign kicked-off with fundraiser gala

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Salvation Army of Rome has kicked off its annual Red Kettle Campaign with the Make a Change Happen Gala fundraiser dinner in Rome Friday night.

This year's campaign goal is to raise $150,000 as well as an additional $50,000 in food, toys and clothing.

"So, we celebrate and tomorrow, we go back to work," said Major Leonard Boynton.

Local donors and volunteers attended the event that took place at the Beeches Inn Conference Center.

"What's interesting is the Salvation Army usually does well during these kinds of unpredictable economic times," Boynton said. "We have so many families that are dependent on us to raise those dollars so that there's food, toys and emergency needs all year round."

Friday's event was one of many fundraising events to come throughout the season. Some of the upcoming fundraisers include mail campaigns and special programs for area corporations.
