Mt. Markham students compete in National Speech Tournament

WEST WINFIELD - Three students from Mount Markham High School’s Speech and Debate Team qualified for and competed in the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Forensic Tournament in Appleton, Wisconsin, in late May.

Sophomores Hilary Ball and Alyssa Lupinski competed in duo interpretation, while Kelsey Merritt, a junior, competed in original oratory. The competition included some of the best student speakers in the nation and gave the Mount Markham students an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that will help them and their team in future competitions.

Ken Behan, team coach, and Christine Merritt, Kelsey’s mother, both served as tournament judges during the competition, the last for Mount Markham students this school year.
