Hundreds gather for StepOut: Diabetes Walk in New Hartford

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Over 300 people and 30 teams gathered in Sherrill Brook Park for the annual StepOut: Walk to Fight Diabetes.

Teams from the area gather to walk to route through the scenic park and the money raised goes to supporting the million of people living in Central New York suffering from Diabetes. The group works to prevent and cure the disease.

The local chapter of the American Diabetes Association set a goal to raise $50,000 and according to the executive director, they are well on their way. The final number has not been calculated but they know thousands more will be sent in over the coming days.

This year's youth ambassador is a 5th grader from Hart's Hill Elementary School, Hailey Gerling.

The largest corporate team was from Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare and the largest family team was Team Shaun organized by the Crist Family.
