Heart Run & Walk Kids event takes place Saturday

NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - America's Greatest Heart Run & Walk is just one week away, but kids got in on the festivities early on Sunday at New York Mills Junior-Senior School on Marauder Boulevard.

The 10th annual Nice 'n Easy Kids Walk was held is designed to teach kids how to live a heart healthy lifestyle, by walking one mile with their family and in doing so, raising funds to support life-saving research for cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Kids also had plenty else to keep them busy including a heart obstacle course, cooking demonstrations, and fitness screening.

Members of the Utica College Physical Therapy Department were on-hand taking height and weight measurements along with body mass index statistics and blood pressure screenings.

Physical Therapy Professor M.J. Gelsomino said, "Because there is a direct connection between obesity and overweight and high bloods pressure and younger and younger people are having high blood pressure problems."
