Blood drive held at Herkimer VFW

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Every blood donation has the potential to save three lives, and organizers of the American Red Cross blood drive at the Herkimer VFW were hoping to end the day with numerous lives potentially saved.

The blood drive ran until 7 p.m. at the VFW on Mohawk Street in the Village of Herkimer

American Red Cross officials say that levels are dangerously low right now -and are hoping this blood drive will help out.

"Schools are out, people are on vacation, and we need people to think about the need for blood," said Diane O'Donnell of the American Red Cross. "Because the need never goes away. The need never, ever goes away."

Organizers hoped to have about 200 donations before the doors closed.
