By Announcement from City of Utica

UTICA, N.Y. - The City of Utica Independence Day celebration is scheduled to take place at Frederick T. Proctor Park on Thursday July 4th.

Mayor Robert M. Palmieri said, “The July 4th Celebration is an annual event our community has come to expect and we plan to make it a day to remember for the whole family.”

The City Of Utica and 92.7FM TheDRIVE (WXUR) are pleased to announce that free fireworks, entertainment and activities will be staged again on July 4th in FT Proctor Park.

The Independence Day celebration features live music from several of the region’s best bands, a parade, a variety of interesting demonstrations and fun activities leading up to a spectacular fireworks display presented by American Fireworks Manufacturing of Frankfort.

This family-friendly free afternoon and evening is made possible by the City, its locally owned and operated Rock station and local sponsors including the Bank of Utica, the F.X. Matt Brewery, Victory of Rome and Picture Perfect Pools and Joe Fanelli Sound & Lighting. Northland Communications, Pacemaker Steel & Piping/Eugene and Loretta Romano, Parkway Drugs, and Clifford Fuel Company

“The opportunity to assist the city in staging its 4th of July celebration is an honor’, says DRIVE owner Mindy Barstein, “Proctor Park is a beautiful and spacious setting. Last year’s event was wonderful – and this year’s promises to be even better.”

Things get underway with a Half Moon Eating Contest for kids at 5pm, followed by live music from Slug, Wicked, Steve Falvo’s Easy Money Big Band, The Bomb and Gridley Paige. The parade will start at 6pm.

DRIVE afternoon personality ‘Genesee Joe’ Trisolino, who is also a member of Slug, looks forward to kicking the live music off. “We love playing events with a real community focus – and I know the other musicians feel the same, so people can count on plenty of good live music. We’re also putting together a great soundtrack for the fireworks display.”

Between the live music sets, area organizations will conduct demonstrations and activities.

The fireworks display is being presented by American Fireworks Manufacturing, a Frankfort based company that has earned a reputation for presenting outstanding shows throughout North America. “These guys are among the most highly regarded pyrotechnics guys in the business”’, says DRIVE Program Director, Tom Starr. “They take great pride in their displays and always throw-in some extra-good stuff when they’re in their own back yard.”

Food and beverages will be available on site from area vendors. Free parking and shuttle service to and from the site will be available from the parking lot of DeIorio’s Bakery at 2200 Bleecker Street starting at 3:30.
