Former Clinton firefighters honored for lengthy service

Seven former Clinton firefighters were honored Monday for a combined 385 years of service.

Friends, families and neighbors came out to watch at the men received certificates for their years of service.

"Most them were fire chiefs of my youth," Bill Heuther, Clinton fire chief, said. "When I was a little kid running around Clinton and Mohawk, they were answering the alarms we are answering today."

County Executive Anthony Picente announced Monday would be "Clinton Fire Department Day" in Oneida County.

Those honored were: Peter Burns, William Hameline, John Nester Sr., Ronald O'Neil, Robert Owens, William Owens Sr. and Richard Young.
