Gansevoort students celebrate diversity and anti-violence with presentation

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Any bad winter weather didn't stop parents from going to Gansevoort Elementary School in Rome on Wednesday to enjoy their kids' Martin Luther King Day assembly.

Art classes teamed up with the school's drama club for a presentation themed "Friends Come in many Colors."

The other theme was "Hands aren't for Hitting" and that part of the program involved kids, staff, and parents talking about and showing all of the many positive things they do with their hands.

"Everyone that wanted to participate decided something they've done good with their hands, so that's what they were showing," said Art Teacher Cynthia Gursky.

Students in kindergarten through fourth grade all took part in Wednesday's assembly.
