Hundreds gather for March of Dimes event

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was perfect weather for the March of Dimes annual event called March For Babies as more than 400 walkers took to the tracks of Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica.

The goal is to raise money to give babies a healthy start in life. Premature birth affects more than 30,000 babies in New York State alone.

The money raised here will be used to help the March of Dimes research and community programs in Central New York. Jim McCarthy, the March of Dimes CNY Board Chairman, said, "Although the March of Dimes is a national organization, the money raised here isn't going to somewhere else, and the impact is direct. My daughters were born at 29 weeks, weighing two pounds. Today, they're at lacrosse practice as a research funded by the March of Dimes."
