Local Church holds day of prayer, fasting for peace

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local Catholics participated in a day of fasting and prayer in hopes of bringing peace to the current situation in Syria, Sunday.

The congregation of St. Joseph-St. Patrick Church began the day with a silent prayer at noon, following Pope Francis' call for peace.

This came after Syria's President said that the nation would respect a UN accord on chemical weapons.

Hoping to bring a peaceful end to the current situation, prayers lasted all day, wrapping up at 6 p.m.
