Memorial golf tournament raises funds to fight cystic fibrosis
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Monday proved to be a great day to play golf and raise money for a good cause.
The 30th Annual Michelle Adey Open was continuing into the evening Monday at the Teugega Country Club in Rome.
Michelle died of cystic fibrosis at the age of 6 in 1982 and her family has not only kept her memory alive, but they have tried to help keep other families from going through what they did.
The tournament is the main fundraiser for the 'Michelle Fund,' which so far has raised more than $500,000 to not only fund research, but to help families who have a child afflicted with a serious illness.
"Our daughter had cystic fibrosis, so it's always been kinda' near and dear to our heart, as far as this tournament goes," said Mike Adey, Michelle's father. "For the last thirty years, it's a very special day because there were two golf tournaments 30 years ago that helped sick kids, and we're the only one left."
The Michelle Fund has raised a total of more than $500,000 since its inception.
