National Day of Prayer breakfast held in Whitesboro

WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - Thursday marked the National Day of Prayer, a time when people across the country are encouraged to pray for the nation by focusing on what is referred to as "The Seven Centers of Power."

Those seven centers mean a focus on government, church, military, family, education, media and business.

The National Day of Prayer is celebrated by Americans of many religions, with many assembling in prayer at places of worship, courthouses, luncheons and breakfasts, temples, and more to pray and observe the day.

Thursday morning, a breakfast was held at Hart's Hill Inn in Whitesboro to mark the day and guide everyone through participation.

"It brings out leaders in local communities to pray for the needs, not only of the community, but of the world," said Bill Worden, who was Master of Ceremonies for the event.

There had been at least two individual National Days of Prayer in U.S. History before the day was made an official annual day of observance in 1952.
