Perfect weather for 3rd Annual Kurt B. Wyman Memorial Ride

ORISKANY, N.Y. (WKTV) - In late September, you never know what kind of weather you are going to see here in Central New York, but those involved with the 3rd annual Kurt B. Wyman Memorial Ride say they can't remember a more perfect day for a motorcycle ride.

More than 150 bikers left the Oriskany American Legion Post Saturday morning under bright sunny skies and warm temperatures to honor Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Kurt B. Wyman, killed during a standoff in the Town of Augusta on June 7th, 2011.

His widow, Lauren Wyman says keeping Kurt's memory alive is important not only for her and her family, but for all those who knew Kurt and even those who didn't, "In the last couple of years I think I have experienced everybody has experienced grief and everybody wears it differently and this is just an opportunity to come together and share memories, laugh and have something positive to look forward to."

Those closest to Kurt within the Sheriff's department once again organized this ride, including fellow Deputy Jeff Burkhardt, "I actually worked with Kurt, he was on the same shifts, same squad and everything, so he was on the same group of guys tat worked every night.  We knew Kurt was looking to get into riding motorcycles and he was a big family guy and this was a good way to pay tribute to him."

Burkhardt says proceeds from the ride will go toward Wyman Park on Rt 840 in Whitestown.
