Public Safety Day held at Utica City Hall

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Utica City Hall hosted their first-ever Public Safety Day on Saturday.

Several demonstrations were part of the program including: fire safety, tasers, the K-9 unit and a mock crime scene investigation.

Parents were able to get child ID kits for their children and the kids posed for pictures with Sparky the Dog! The idea is for people who live in the city to get to know their public safety officials before there is an emergency.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams said, "This lets the public see police officers in a different light. Usually when we're on a call, we don't necessarily have the time to explain what we do and the type of equipment we use, so in a very relaxed atmosphere, this lets the public see the equipment we do use and actually get some time to speak to the officers about their jobs."
