Rider takes stuffed bear on local leg of worldwide journey for a cause

Charlie isn't just the coolest bear in town, he's also the most well-traveled - starting in Arizona on July 4.

On Tuesday, he was in the Mohawk Valley as part of the latest leg of his journey around the world.

Volunteers are passing him along from motorcycle to motorcycle and helping Charlie raise awareness and money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The funds raised from the trek will be split between Make-a-Wish America and Make-a-Wish International.

Local rider, Mike Olson, strapped Charlie in to his motorcycle Tuesday for a ride from Utica to Ogdensburg. However, Charlie still has a long way to go from there.

"They're going to run him farther north and then he'll make the trip back here to the eastern seaboard, shipped to England, France and eventually to India, where we have a large crew," Olson said. "And by the first of the year, we'll have him back in Arizona where he started on July 4 this year."

A duplicate of Charlie Bear will be auctioned off at the end of the ride.

If you want to participate in the relay, you can find more information online.
