Sesame Street characters visit with sick children at local hospital

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Elmo and Cookie Monster put smiles on the faces of sick children at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica on Tuesday.

The characters are in town this week as part of the "Sesame Street Live" show at the Stanley Theatre.

Elmo and Cookie Monster went room to room hugging, kissing, and laughing with the children on the pediatrics floor. Parents tell us they love seeing the children happy and forgetting about their pain, even if it is just for a few minutes.

"They just have a great time," said Performance Director Jerry DuMars. "Like I said, it's a nice diversion for them. It's a positive moment for them to see their favorite Sesame Street character up close and personal."
