Sea of pink at Breast Cancer Walk, hundreds of thousands of dollars raised
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Thousands helped to "make strides" against breast cancer Sunday morning in Utica.
The American Cancer Society's walk brought together hundreds of local survivors, volunteers, and community leaders. They formed a united front, raising awareness and funds to help find a cure. The coordinator for the Breast Cancer Support Group in Utica is a 26 year survivor and says it's encouraging to see so many people come out in support. Karen Christensen said, "It's a very scary diagnosis and we're very fortunate here in Utica to have a lot of resources to help women along who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. We have Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare has a breast cancer center. There's the support group. There's the American Cancer Society. We have a lot of support in this area." 3,600 people took part in the walk, raising a grand total of $236,000. |
