Why I Love Utica essay contest winners announced

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Over 300 children submitted essays to Utica Mayor David Roefaro, and Saturday afternoon, the ten best were announced.

The ten winners of the mayor's "Why I love Utica" essay contest read their essays in front of a large crowd Saturday at Utica's City Hall. Mayor Roefaro said it was incredibly hard to pick the ten best because he considers all of the kids winners.

The youngsters wrote about everything from why they loved the zoo, to how often they play in the city's parks and pools.

The mayor says it is very useful to hear from the children about what they love about our city, especially when it comes to budget talks, so that city leaders know what is important to the kids.

Here is a list of the winners and the elementary schools they attend :

  • Angelo DiGiorgio, Albany
  • Annie Le, Albany
  • Amanda Kendic, Columbus
  • Nathan Williams, General Herkimer
  • Vincent Nunez, Hughes
  • Alyssa Penge, Jones
  • Zamaya Council, Kernan
  • Cha Ku War Kyet, Martin Luther King
  • Adi Dedic, Notre Dame
  • Kimberly Kim, Watson Williams

Congratulations to all of those who participated.
