Wreath-laying commemorates end of Korean War
UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A special wreath-laying ceremony got underway Friday morning in Utica in honor of the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.
The war began in June 1950 and a ceasefire was signed on July 27, 1953. So although Saturday is the official anniversary of the end of the war, the local ceremony was held a day prior.
More than 36,000 Americans lost their lives, 55 of them were from the Mohawk Valley.
Organizers say this day is also about the survivors.
Aside from the wreath-laying, the names of all of the local men and women who were killed in action during the Korean War were read.
