2 the Prom - Accessories

Accessories can either make or break the perfect look.  Below are 9 tips that can enhance your look.

*Jewelry -- This all depends on what your dress looks like.  If it is heavily beaded, less is more. Perhaps earrings but no necklace, or vice versa. Rhinestones are a proms best friend. Try to picture your favorite stars going to the Academy Awards. Do you always like their red carpet look? Bracelets are always a nice touch...but only on one wrist. The other is waiting for a Corsage (that's where you guys come in...don't think you're getting off the hook that easily).

*Talk to your date...local florists are able to make the Boutonnieres and corsages to match.

*Body Glitter -- Have fun but not too much fun. You don't want to take away from the dress. Or get it all over the guys tux when you're dancing.

*Shawls are nice. Central New York weather is unpredictable. You can't guarantee a gorgeous day..but you don't want to wear a bulky coat either.

*Gloves aren't bad if it suits the dress. However, If your prom is a sit down dinner you may not want to be taking them off and putting them on. Comfort is key.

*Shoes -- Think comfort. No matter what the color or style BREAK THEM IN. Walk around your house and get a feel for them. Also, there are non-slip sticker things you can purchase separately (These are great if you have a grand march to walk in). Now to the style...Thin and strappy are always smart. A vertical strap down the front (forms a T) will make your legs look taller. Black/White and Silver/Gold are safe. Warm tones wear gold, cool tones wear silver. Also, don't be afraid to have them dyed. I know it's not 1985 but you are guaranteed to have a perfect match. I don't recommend color shoes unless they are a perfect match.

*Same goes for your handbag. Here's something to think about. If you have a shawl you're not going to use or a lot of fabric left over from your dress alterations...ask the seamstress to make a pouch purse for you.

*Undergarments -- You don't want visible panty lines, so plan accordingly. Beaded dresses are nice because you don't have to worry about this. Also, ask your seamstress to sew cups in the top of your dress. That way you don't have to worry about visible bra straps. Pantyhose... If you are wearing open toed shoes make sure you buy sheer toe stockings.

*Tiara's and Rhinestone Barrettes/Hairpieces -- Don't buy these unless they work with your hairstyle.
