New Yorkers have been spotting about the same number of year as they did last year, but the number of bears is down.

State conservation officials say that northern New York hunters have reported about 60 percent fewer bears than they did at this point last year.

Conservation officials say the warm weather and the food has something to do with it. They say the bears won’t move as much because of it, and therefore they won’t get as much exposure to hunters.

Regular season for deer and bear hunting begins Saturday. For more information about New York’s hunting seasons, click here.
