UTICA – Stathis Greek Restaurant & Gyro has garnered quite the buzz on social media during the short time it’s been open, and today the restaurant celebrated its grand opening.
The owners of the new restaurant, which is located at 1900 Genesee St., were on hand for Wednesday’s ribbon cutting and grand opening event. Although the grand opening was Wednesday, it officially opened its doors last Tuesday, May 15.
Local community members who turned out for the event got to try some of the specialties and some Greek culture in the form of spanakopita, Greek salad and grape leaves.
“Good things, good reviews. I've seen people come in two, three times a week, same faces repeatedly,” said restaurant co-owner Stathis Koulouris. “Nothing but good remarks, the food is excellent."
“My parents are from Greece, they’ve been cooking their whole lives,” Koulouris said. “We owned restaurants before in the past in the Bronx, so we're familiar with the whole restaurant situation.”
Stathis has a menu full of authentic Greek food, and the restaurant is family-run by Stathis Koulouris and his parents, Irini and Gerasimos Koulouris. It’s open for both takeout and dine-in for lunch and dinner.
