ROME, NY - Firefighters from Central New York took to the Kennedy Arena ice in Rome Saturday, to face off against a team of firefighters from the Washington DC area in the annual Fire on Ice Hockey Game.
The series was knotted up at 2 games apiece, but the team from Central New York took home the trophy and bragging rights with a 7 to 6 victory over the DC team.
This was the 5th year for the match up.
Proceeds from the game will benefit the Burn Foundation of Central New York.
James Ennis, Chairman of the Burn Foundation was at the game.
"These guys in the Mohawk Valley have raised thousands of dollars for us to send burn survivors off to summer burn camp. We send hospital staff off to different training seminars and conferences. We provide durable goods to burn families, things insurance doesn't pay for. So the proceeds raised here, we couldn't be more thankful for."
The Burn Foundation of CNY covers 32 counties from the Canadian border, New York, and Pennsylvania.
