The application for the Excelsior Scholarship for the spring semester has officially opened, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today.
The application is for SUNY and CUNY students to apply for free tuition, which began this past fall semester. The application can be found here, and it’s open until December 4.
According to Cuomo, approximately 45,000 students were deemed eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship for the current fall semester. Of those students, 22,000 are covered by the scholarship and 23,000 students are covered by already existing state and federal aid.
The Excelsior Scholarship is being phased in over the course of several years. For the 2017-2018 academic school year, New Yorkers with household incomes of up to $100,000 are eligible. That will increase to $110,000 for the 2018-2019 school year, and it’ll increase to $125,000 for the 2019-2020 school year.
To receive the funding, eligible students must be enrolled in college full-time and complete 30 credits per academic year. Students must also maintain the grade point average needed to successfully complete the courses.
