Clinton, N.Y. - The 2018 NEACA Gun Show is scheduled to be held at the Clinton Arena June 8th through June 10th, but there are now three separate petitions being circulated to try to urge the Kirkland Town Board to move the show elsewhere.

Ellen Blum of Clinton has started an online petition on the website change.org and about 90 people have signed the petition thus far.

On the website, Blum says the following, "We are living in stressful times in America today. Our country is polarized, our people are upset, we are facing challenges from within and without. One thing we can all agree on is prioritizing the safety and well-being of our children. In the wake of so many horrific school shootings, most recently in Parkland, Florida, and threats of school shootings, many of our students are feeling anxious about going to school. Many parents feel anxious as well. In light of this, it seems appropriate to change the venue of Clinton's annual gun show so that it is not held in the Clinton Arena, a building close to the schools and a place known for fun and friendly competition, especially during a time when athletic fields are in heavy use by student athletes and other members of the community. In times like these, it is important to support our children, our families and our teachers. With this in mind, we respectfully ask you to add your name to our petition asking the Town of Kirkland to move the annual gun show to an alternate, more suitable location."

The Town of Kirkland owns and operates the Clinton Arena and Kirkland Town Supervisor told News Channel 2 on Friday the Town Board will begin discussing the online petition and the other written petitions being circulated, at Monday night's Town Board Meeting.

Blum's online petition is just one of three such petitions being circulated.

Another Clinton resident, Jennifer Deweerth has been circulated a written petition to gain signatures to show the Kirkland Town Board there are people who would like the gun show moved.

Deweerth told News Channel 2 on Friday she began circulating the petition back on February 28th at a prayer vigil in Clinton for the victims of the Parkland, FL school shooting, "We collected about 80 signatures at the vigil and we've collected about 60 more since, and someone (Blum) had put up an online petition to enhance awareness of it. We have meetings coming up in the next week or two with some parents and are hoping to have high school students who are collecting signatures to join in and then take those signatures and our concerns to the Kirkland Town Board."

David Petronis of Saratoga runs the NEACA traveling gun shows that go all across the northeast.
Petronis told News Channel 2 on Friday that he hopes his show at the Clinton Arena doesn't get moved, "I won't move it unless the Town Council of Kirkland asks me to do so, and if they do, we do have expenses that we have already incurred and I would hope that they would reimburse me for those expenses if they wanted us to move."

The Kirkland Town Board Meeting on Monday is set for 7:00 P.M..
