WEST WINFIELD -- Several fire crews responded to a house fire in West Winfield, Sunday morning.

Fire officials say the call came in around 10 a.m.

Art Klinger, Otsego County Emergency Services Coordinator, says it is believed that the fire started in the garage and caused part of the house to catch on fire. Klinger says the garage was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

The family was not home at the time the house caught on fire, but people driving by the home saw the fire and were able to get two dogs out of the home.

"We're still investigating, trying to figure out exactly what caused it without having anybody here," Klinger said. "We're just trying to piece everything together. Numerous fire departments have responded in to try to get the fire controlled. And we have Red Cross coming to assist with the resident's needs."

Two windows were broken to help get some of the smoke and heat out of the home.

One Firemen was transported to the hospital for heat related injuries. There is no word yet on his condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
