Rudy Allen Rothberg, 52, of Evans Mills, Jefferson County, was killed on Nov. 8, 1972.

Police say Rothberg worked as a truck driver for Whitaker Company in Deposit, and he was driving a tractor trailer northbound on I-81 when he stopped at a rest area just south of LaFayette, Onondaga County, around 1:45 a.m. on Nov. 8, 1972.

Police say Rothberg was sleeping in the driver’s seat of the truck when he was shot in the head with a shotgun. His body was found and reported by another truck driver around 3:05 a.m., and police found that his wallet with a small amount of cash and credit cards had also been stolen.

Anybody with information about the case is asked to call Investigator Eric Costello or Senior Investigator Reece Treen, of NY State Police Troop D, at 315-366-6000.
