Daniel Middaugh and Daniel LaBella

Nate Crossett

A hotly contested race, not getting that much attention lately, is for Oneida County Sheriff. It's pitting current sheriff Daniel Middaugh against Democrat Daniel LaBella. Both candidates have law enforcement backgrounds. Middaugh has spent 36 years with Sheriff's Department, and Dan LaBella has 20 years as a Utica Police Officer.

Despite having signs posted everywhere, both men say it takes more than just name recognition to secure a vote. "Signs do give you name recognition, but signs don't vote. You have to go out there and prove yourself to the people," says Dan LaBella. Meanwhile, Dan Middaugh tells us, "I hope people take a look at both candidates, and then based on their credentials and what they want to do, base their decisions."
