The Republican making a run for Congressman Sherwood Boehlert's position unveiled another component to his "jobs and the economy" platform Monday. He calls it, in short, fighting the tax cuts. Senator Ray Meier wants to improve state government programs that aim to save you money. He claims without permanent tax relief, millions of Americans will see their taxes go up by billions of dollars by 2011.
Meier also states more than five-million low-income individuals and couples will no longer be exempt from individual tax.
The reason, lawmakers often pass tax cuts, but they put expiration dates on them. According to Meier it is a vision that extends no further than the next election.
Democratic Response:
Democrat Michael Arcuri unveiled a new jobs plan website today www.ArcuriJobsPlan.com. Among others, it focuses on the middle class and small business tax relief. Arcuri states, "Instead of giving huge tax breaks to billionaires, oil companies and corporations that ship American jobs overseas, we need to provide relief for hard-working families like those here in central New York." He also said Arcuri supports a middle class tax cut plan that would provide assistance to the Americans that most need it, not corporate fat cats.
In direct response to Meier's tax cuts exemptions platform, the communications director for the Arcuri campaign said, Hayley Rumback. "Michael Arcuri supports re-evaluating the Alternative Minimum Tax level to make sure it truly provides assistance to the middle class."
