Decision 2006

Nate Crossett

Two seats are up for grabs for Oneida County Family Court Judge. Running for the seats are two family court judges and two local attorneys are in the running for Oneida County Family Court-- they are Judge Randy Caldwell, Judge Brian Miga, Attorney D. Victor Pellegrino, and Attorney Joan Teuchert Shkane.

If elected, the candidates will handle a number of cases-- everything from juvenile delinquency to paternity cases. Members of the Oneida County Bar Association tell NEWSChannel 2 when you step into that voting booth, do your homework.

We were able to contact two of the four candidates running for the seat.  Judge Brian Miga says, "If you don't have the experience, then the children and families don't get the benefit of that.  I tell the people everyday, the mothers and fathers, your interests are secondary...I'm sitting here representing the child."  Judge Randy Caldwell told us, "To see the look on a child's face; to discuss certain issues in court. It can be rewarding. We are dealing with emotional situations."

There are also two requirements in order to run for Family Court Judge
-You must be a resident of Oneida County.
-You must also be admitted to the Bar Association for at least 10 years.
