24 Congressional Candidates Discuss Child Advocacy Services

Nate Crossett

Democratic candidate for Congress Mike Arcuri held a small news conference to tout his current public service to the success of Utica's Child Advocacy Center. Also on hand: Oneida County Sheriff Candidate Dan LaBella and the founder of the National Child Advocacy Center, Alabama Congressman Bud Cramer.

The center provides support services for children who have been sexually abused. Arcuri tells NEWSChannel 2 the work he's put into the Child Advocacy Center has been extremely effective. Arcuri says, "I'm so proud of the things we have been doing here, making it just a little bit easier for children who have been victimized to go through the system. So, I'm very proud of what we've done here.

Congressman Cramer explains that organizations like the Child Advocacy Center depend on public funding, and that's where State Senator Ray Meier comes in. Meier was partly responsible for securing $5.8 million for child advocacy centers, statewide. He also has a hand in seven different pieces of legislation to help protect children in this way.
