John Murad and Leon Koziol

Nate Crossett

State Senate candidate Leon Koziol is now fighting to keep the support of the only party he has left. The Utica attorney will appear on the Working Families line, but a blog on the state's working families website puts their support behind Democrat John Murad.

The blog quotes a staffer by saying:
"While another candidate is technically, unavoidably, and unfortunately on the Working Families ballot line, the New York State Working Families Party enthusiastically supports Democrat John Murad for State Senate."

Murad, who beat Koziol in the Democratic primary, is concerned if Koziol stays in the race, it will take away his votes. Murad says, "This is the type of thing that would at least make Leon think about it more-- losing the support of the family party. He may get some votes on that line, but not anywhere near what he would've gotten had they supported him unanimously."

Koziol insists he will stay in the race. In fact, he has the firm support of the local branch of the Working Families Party.  He tells NEWSChannel 2, "I've got the line, and I'm going to stay on. Nothing has changed. It's dirty politics in an already dirty race."

Koziol and Murad are among four candidates seeking the 47 state senate seat, which is being vacated by Ray Meier.  Joe Griffo is the Republican and Conservative Party candidate, and Utica Mayor Tim Julian will be on the Independence Party line.
