Decision 2006: Democratic Candidate Officially Enters State Senate Race

By Jerry Walsh

Former State Supreme Court Justice John Murad says, 'who needs retirement?' Murad says he's never been as excited about a potential job as he is about the possibility of being the next state senator from the 47th district.

Murad announced his candidacy for the office surrounded by friends and family today at the Radisson Hotel in Utica. "Voters of the 47th district desire representation by an individual whose views more closely reflect their own moderate viewpoints," says Murad. The senate candidate and former State Supreme Court Justice says he will work to stop a proposal to build power lines through Oneida County.

Murad says the amount of people willing to sign his petitions coupled with the results of a recent poll he's commissioned give him confidence going into September's primary against attorney Leon Koziol. Republican candidates seeking the 47th district senate seat include Oneida County Executive Joe Griffo and Utica Mayor Tim Julian.
