Arcuri Campaign: "Hanna won't reveal positions to voters"

UTICA, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the campaign of Congressman Mike Arcuri called on Richard Hanna to come clean about his positions on critical issues important to voters in the 24th congressional district.  Even Hanna's campaign website doesn't provide information about his views on vital policy positions.

"Richard Hanna either doesn't know where he stands or doesn't want to tell voters," said Arcuri's campaign manager Jordan Karp.  "When it comes to the important issues Congress will be addressing next year, Richard Hanna's nowhere to be found."

Despite announcing his candidacy for Congress on May 15 -- 123 days ago -- Richard Hanna has refused to tell voters where he stands on important issues, including:

  • Agriculture Policy: would Richard Hanna have voted for the 2008 Farm Bill that makes critical investments for dairy farmers and special crops in the 24th Congressional District?
  • Stem Cell Research: does he support the President's veto of stem cell research legislation?
  • Healthcare Reform: does Hanna believe Americans have a right to universal health care coverage?
  • Social Security privatization: does Hanna support Republican plans to privatize and risk seniors' relied-upon benefit?
  • Expanding the State Health Insurance Plan to cover an additional 10 million uninsured children: does Hanna support the President's two vetoes of this legislation, which would reduce taxpayers' burden and expand preventative care?
  • Minimum Wage: would Richard Hanna have voted to increase the minimum wage?

"Instead of campaigning on the issues important to Upstate citizens, Richard Hanna just resorts to smear tactics and nasty campaigning.  Why won't he tell voters where he stands?" asked Karp.

In response, Renee Gamela, spokesperson for the Richard Hanna campaign said:

"Richard Hanna has participated in a myriad of interviews and radio programs staking out his positions over the last several months," Gamela said.  "He looks forward to participating in debates and forums throughout the district where he can match his positions with Mr. Arcuri's 98 percent lockstep record with the Washington party bosses.  Hopefully, Mr. Arcuri will participate in all these exchanges so voters can have a complete understanding on where each candidate stands on the issues."
