Arcuri endorsed by Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees

UTICA, N.Y. – The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees has endorsed U.S. Representative Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) in his bid for re-election.

The Federation said they felt Arcuri had repeatedly voted for middle-class tax relief and support for critical investments in education, health care reform, and his work with local law enforcement.

"During times of economic uncertainty, it is more important than ever that working families keep more of their hard-earned money and can afford to send their kids to college," said Arcuri. "I look forward to working with AFSCME members, from health care providers to law enforcement officers, to make sure local families are healthy and safe."

AFSCME is New York's largest public service union with over 420,000 members, including workers who care for the sick and elderly in public hospitals and nursing homes; members who care for the mentally ill, the disabled, and the infirm; and law enforcement members who ensure public safety and security.

Congressman Arcuri has supported the Community Oriented Policing (C.O.P.S) Program, and cosponsored legislation to increase critical C.O.P.S funding.

Arcuri also has the endorsement of the New York State AFL-CIO, the New York State Public Employees Federation of the AFL-CIO, the Teamsters Local Union 182, the Civil Service Employees Association, the United Mine Workers of America - New York/Pennsylvania State COMPAC Council, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades of America and Canada - District Council #4, the Empire State Regional Council of Carpenters Local 747 and the Central New York Community Action Program (CAP) Council - Region 9 UAW.

This year Arcuri was recognized by the national Drum Major Institute for public policy for his 100% voting record with working families, including his support to raise the federal minimum wage, middle-class tax relief and refusal to support the Peru-Free Trade Agreement.

In his first week in Congress, Arcuri voted to raise the federal minimum wage for the first time in a decade. In July, the first increase went into effect, giving working families a much needed pay raise.
