Many absentee ballots yet to be counted in 24th District race

By EVAN WHITE

(WKTV) - Election day may be over but voters are still deciding who will represent the 24th Congressional District. Will it be incumbent Michael Arcuri or political new-comer Richard Hanna?

The race is a tight one as Arcuri leads by about 6,400 votes over challenger Richard Hanna, but many absentees are still coming in.

The numbers look like this:

20,063 absentees were issued, 16,210 have been received. This does not include county ballots that were filled out at the counter prior to the election. Arcuri has declared victory, but his challenger has not conceded.

Representatives from Hanna's campaign will be present for next Wednesday's re-canvassing. Until then, Hanna's campaign says he'll be with his family and would not offer a comment.

The Oneida County Board of Elections says a letter was sent to the candidates regarding re-canvassing and reading of the absentee's. That will start next Wednesday at 10am.
