UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Congressman Michael Arcuri came away with a 6,400 vote lead after election day -absentee, affidavit and military ballots combined to add to that total. On Wednesday, his Republican challenger Richard Hanna has conceded.
In a relatively upbeat news conference, Richard Hanna said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience of running for Congress and said others unhappy with leadership should try running.
Hanna joined his wife, and supporters as he spoke with reporters about giving way.
The former Republican candidate had never before run for office. During his campaign, Hanna promoted himself as an outsider interested in changing government.
His concession comes before re canvassing efforts in Oneida and Tompkins County finished.
"It's clear that the first of all most of the counties are completed," Hanna said. "We have access to info that shows us that this may be the closest race out of 230 in the United States, that we will lose, and we thought it polite not to drag this out once that was certain."
Hanna spoke with Congressman Michael Arcuri earlier Wednesday to congratulated him on his victory.
