David Gregory named Moderator of 'Meet The Press'

By ANDREW DONOVAN

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKTV) - David Gregory has been named moderator and managing editor of NBC News' Meet The Press. He will replace the late Tim Russert who died in June of a heart attack. The news was made official on Sunday's show by interim moderator Tom Brokaw who had Gregory join him on the set.

Gregory has been NBC News' Chief White House Correspondent while also anchoring '1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,' formerly 'Road to the White House,' on MSNBC. He also is a primary substitute on 'Today.' Gregory joined NBC News in 1995 and has covered Decisions 2000, 2004 and 2008.

In addition to his moderating and managing editorial duties, Gregory will continue to provide analysis on 'Today' and remain as a substitute anchor. He will also make appearances on MSNBC and, although giving up his show on the cable channel, will fill-in anchor as needed.

This official announcement comes after a week of speculation from various sources that Gregory would be given the job. Gregory becomes the tenth official permanent host of the program and follows in the foot-steps of Martha Rountree, Lawrence Spivak, Roger Mudd, Marvin Kalb, Chris Wallace and of course, Tim Russert.

“Meet the Press” is the most popular and top rated Sunday morning public affairs program and has been for nearly 11 years. It is the longest-running program on network television ever, premiering on NBC on November 6, 1947. The show made its initial debut two years earlier as a radio program.
