WKTV - It's New Law Monday! Several new laws, both state and federal, are going into effect today. Here's a look at what they are, and what you need to do to comply with them.
Amanda's Law:
Carbon monoxide alarms must be installed in all homes, including single family homes, multi-family homes, and dwellings with a fuel-burning appliance that could emit carbon monoxide.
New homes built after Jan. 1, 2008 must have an alarm hard-wired through an electrical unit. Any home built before that date can have a battery-operated alarm.
For more information, you can take a look at the New York State Bureau of Fire Safety's website:

Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009:
Congress passed and President Barack Obama signed the Credit CARD Act in May of 2009, to help protect consumers against abusive fees, penalties, interest rate fees and other practices.
Some of the new rules and regulations within the act have already taken effect. Other rules that go in effect today include a ban on double-cycle billing, monthly statements getting sent out earlier, and tougher restrictions on "teaser" rates.

Teenaged Driving Laws:
All teens getting their permits today must follow a new set of guidelines. Once a teen takes and passes the written test for a permit, they must wait 6 months before they can take the road test.
Teens can't have more than 1 non-family member passenger under the age of 21 in the car, without a licensed parent or guardian.
The number of supervised hours in the car has also increased. Now teens must get 50 hours of experience behind the wheel instead of 20. 15 of those hours must be when a teen drove after sunset.
