Sensory Sensitive Santa
The appeal of this December 2012 story to me was the quiet effort being made to provide a bridge across complex circumstances for families dealing with special needs. All children present parents and caregivers with a variety of challenges and rewards.
The holiday season is a time of high expectations and idealized dreams which often creates tension rather than joy. This “event” was an intensely personal effort by some to make the spirit of Christmas real by giving an opportunity to make some good memories out of a situation aften avoided because of the fear of exposing unique vulnerabilities.
“Yes Virginia. There really is a Santa Claus.” And gifts arrive sometimes in unrecognizable packages.
