UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Monday, April 12, 2010 is the first day you can get your hands on a new fast food sandwich that has no bun.
People poured in all day long to the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Genesee Street in Utica to try the much-advertised new sandwich called the "Double Down." Instead of a bun, this sandwich uses two chicken fillets to hold in place two pieces of cheese and two slices of bacon. Of course, you can't forget the special sauce.
With the big taste come some big nutrition numbers, though.
The new Double Down has 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1380 milligrams of sodium.
Comparatively, McDonald's Big Mac also has 540 calories but only 29 grams of fat and 1040 milligrams of sodium.
Burger King's Whopper With Cheese has 670 calories, 40 grams of fat and 936 milligrams of sodium.
Utica KFC spokesperson Meloney Morris said the company is releasing its new sandwich line one at a time. Next month it will release the "Doubleicious," which is expected to be similar to the Double Down, except it does come with a bun - a Hawaiian bread bun.
