UTICA-(WKTV)The Central New York Veterans Center honored Martin Luther King Jr. Day Monday by holding an open house and a food drive.

The event focused on African Americans in the military. During the event the group watched two films- "Red Tails" and "Men of Honor."

The center feeds between 5 and 13 vets on a weekly basis and shelters as many as 5 homeless vets a week.

"We had food and refreshments for the community," said Selden Grimes, CNY Veterans Outreach Center. "We had tours and information sessions. Just pretty much getting the information out there to make the community aware of what's going on in the community."
