* A South James Street building in Rome is a total loss, according to the Rome Fire Department after a fire that broke out Thursday night.

* A home in Steuben goes up in flames Friday afternoon

* A three-year old boy clings to life -- after police say he was severely beaten into a floor by a 23-year old Town of Lenox man.

* The third man involved in the 2006 Pleasant Street murder of Maria Magana in her home was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

* Utica Police are still trying to figure out who's responsible for a multiple shooting last weekend.

* The second of two men accused in a local insurance fraud case returned to federal court in Syracuse this week...where they entered a plea of not guilty.

* Senator Joe Griffo says that too many violent felons are released back onto the streets....calling the current parole board too lenient.

* In a six to two vote, the Utica Common Council voted in favor of turning over their investigation of the City Police Chief to let Mayor David Roefaro decide the outcome.

* Mayor Roefaro was also in the news this week for releasing the City of Utica's new budget proposal, and with it, residents of the city could be facing a 7.25% tax increase.

* Gamblers placed their last bids this week at the casino portion of Vernon Downs...as the racino closes its doors February 11. With the closing also go roughly 300 jobs
