Quick-spreading fire destroys buildings in Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN - Residents watch as flames destroyed four buildings and damage several others. A quick moving fire in Johnstown destroyed multiple old factories and damaged several homes.
The call came in about 10:00 AM Thursday. Fire officials say the fire started in an old abandoned building and quickly spread because of high winds. Heat from the hot blaze even melted siding on nearby houses. More than 150 firefighters from Johnstown and fifteen other nearby communities were called in to fight the fire. It took more than two hours to bring it under control. Fire officials say it started in a vacant leather finishing factory and quickly spread. Fire officials say the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but an investigation is ongoing. |
