- There are so many different insulation systems and contractors. How do I know which one is right for me?
- That's where our expertise comes in. Your home works as a system and insulation is one component of that systems. How and where you insulate can affect other parts of this system such as your heating, cooling, and ventilation, causing problems such as mold, ice dams, and comfort issues. Our 79 years of industry experience along with the ongoing building science training we provide our employees cannot be matched by our competitors. They only install insulation, we can help design the entire system, saving you money and eliminating future problems.
- The house that I live in is not insulated. How much could I expect to save if you insulate it?
- You can expect to lower the fuel consumption anywhere from 30% - 50% depending on the situation. Even at 30%, investing in insulation will return more money to you than if you invested the same amount of money in the stock market. Typical payback is 4 years.
- If I super-insulate my home, will it be able to breathe?
- Every new home built today should have a ventilation system installed to provide fresh air to the occupants. This is the easily done by using a ventilating fan instead of a conventional bathroom fan and is a requirement in an Energy Star home. It will also become a code requirement in the near future. We have the testing equipment and knowledge to assure that your home is safe and has adequate ventilation.
- I live in a new home now, yet my wife and I are uncomfortable. What's wrong?
- Unfortunately a lot of builders use the least expensive contractors, products, and materials available. Energy efficiency, comfort, healthiness, and sound control are compromised in favor of initial visual appeal, resulting in a lower price, but higher monthly operating cost and utility bills. The secret to comfort in any building are the surfaces around us. If the ambient air temperature is 70 degree F but the inside surface of the walls is 62 degrees because of air leakage through insulation, your body will lose heat to that cold surface and you will become chilled. Increasing the ambient temperature will not solve the problem. Stopping the air leakage will.
- The foam sounds great, but can I afford it?
- If foam systems are implemented during the design stage of a project, you can recover a lot of the extra cost by eliminating things you no longer need such as downsizing the heating and cooling equipment, eliminating Tyvek, building with 2X4 instead of 2X6, eliminating attic ventilation and vapor barriers. When you factor in the approximately 40% extra energy savings compared to traditional fiberglass, the extra cost of the foam is recovered within approximately 4 years while you enjoy low energy bills and very high comfort levels. We can help your heating contractor properly size the equipment.
