If you have children, you know that being in a good school district is of great importance when it comes to finding a new home. When college is in view, researching schools becomes even more necessary. Here are 10 high schools in the country with the best SAT/ACT scores.

SAT/ACT scores are strong indicators of the success of the school and its students and remain important for gaining entrance to top colleges.

A recent study by Niche Ink ranked more than 900 school districts based on self-reported SAT/ACT scores from over 75,000 students from 2012 forward. Only schools with responses from over 100 students were included in the rankings.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, a public magnate school in Alexandria, Va., just outside Washington, D.C., came in at No. 1 on the list.

Two schools in the top 10 were in San Jose, Calif.: No. 2 (The Harker School, a private school) and No. 7 (Lynbrook High, a public school). One other California school made it into the top 10: Marlborough School, a private high school in Los Angeles.

New York City boasts three of the top 10 high schools with the highest SAT/ACT scores. Dalton School (a private school) is No. 3 on the list, Stuyvesant High School (a public school) is No. 4, and Regis High School (a private school) is No. 5.

San Francisco’s Lick-Wilmerding High (private school) is No. 8 on the list. Lakeville, Conn.’s The Hotchkiss School (a private school) ranks No. 9 and the Packer Collegiate Institute (a private school) in Brooklyn, N.Y. takes the final spot in the top 10.
