2 Russians indicted in US bank hacking case
NEW YORK (AP) - Two Russian men have been indicted on charges that they hacked into the computers of two major U.S. banks and stole customer information that led to the theft of more than $4 million.
The federal indictments were announced Thursday in New York.
One of the suspects, Aleksander Kalinin, was also accused in the same indictment of installing malicious software on a Nasdaq computer. Authorities say the breach did not affect the trading of securities.
Kalinin was among five men charged in a second, larger computer hacking prosecution announced Thursday in New Jersey.
Authorities say that Kalinin and Nikolay Nasenkov provided account information stolen from Citibank and PNC Bank to co-conspirators who encrypted blank ATM cards and withdrew $4.2 million in 2006 and 2007.
Both men are at large.
