NEW DEVELOPMENT: Some Locks Reopen on State Canals (Added at 2:15 pm)

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Some additional locks on the state canal system closed in last week's flooding reopened today.

According to the state Canal Corporation, the Erie Canal is now open from Lock 2 in Waterford, Saratoga County, west to Lock 8 in Rotterdam, Schenectady County.

The canal is also open between Lock 16 in Minden, Montgomery County, west to Baldwinsville, Onondaga County.

However, the Erie Canal is expected to remain closed for two to three weeks from Lock 9 at Rotterdam Junction west to Lock 15 in at Fort Plain. Heavily damaged Lock 10 in Cranesville may remain closed for up to eight weeks.

The Champlain Canal is now open from Lock 7 in Fort Edward north to Lock 12 in Whitehall, Washington County.

The entire Oswego Canal is now open.
